Ancient City Exploration from Xi'an to Datong Map
Day 1   Xi'an 

Please arrange your international flight to get to Xi'an, one of the four ancient capitals in China. We will meet you at the airport, transfer you to the hotel and check you in. We will begin the tour the following day.

Day 2   Xi'an 

Today your guide and driver will pick you up from the hotel lobby and then drive to the countryside of the Xi'an city about 1hrs, we will visit the most impressive historic site Terracotta Warriors which are the most significant archeological excavations of the 20th century. Work is ongoing at this site, which is around 1.5 kilometers east of Emperor Qin Shi Huang's Mausoleum in Lintong, It is a sight not to be missed by any visitor to China. Believe you will be amazed by the culture and history to get a feeling back to Qing Dynasty during the 3hrs experience. (No flash when take photos)
Lunch will be in the local restaurant, we will continue the sightseeing to the Big Wild Goose Pagoda built to house Buddhist scriptures collected by a Chinese Monk. Big Wild Goose Pagoda has 7 floors in total. Architecture is traditional Chinese style decorating with some Buddha statues. Tourists can see variety of Buddha statues and see the whole Xi’an city at the top floor. thereafter, travel to the emblem of Xian city Bell Tower, Atop the Bell Towet you will have a panoramic view of Xi'an city.

Day 3   Xi'an 

visit the Shaanxi Provincial Museum, This provincial museum is one of the major museums in China, and it holds numerous unearthed cultural artifacts from within the Shaanxi province as well as the rest of China.
then take a tour at The Ancient City Wall, This is an extension of the old Tang Dynasty structure boasting the most complete city wall that has survived through the long Chinese history. The City Wall has corner towers, ramparts, sentry towers, gate towers, battlements and a number of city defensive fortifications with very strong defense capability. here you can spend a few hours walk around the city wall or experience the cycling if you are interested.

Day 4   Xi'an  Pingyao

Today you will take the morning train to the next stop Pingyao, we will meet you at the train station and bring you to visit the Shuanglin Temple, It is one of the key Buddhist monasteries in the Han nationality area. From here you will learn more about the Buddhist culture in China.

Day 5   Pingyao  Datong

After the breakfast at the hotel you will visit the World Heritage listed ancient town of Pingyao. You will see there the city surrounded by Ming City Walls. Pingyao was China's banking center and has many mansions, courtyard house, temples, museums and historic shops. You will stroll from Ming Qing street to Town Tower, Armed Escort Company Museum. Ming Qing street, also known as ‘South Street,’ was the center of commercial activities in Pingyao and is lined with shops and courtyard residences. The 18-metre high City Tower, one of the highlights of the old city, straddles Ming Qing Street, and many of the main tourist sites can also be found close by.
In the afternoon, you will be transferred to the train station and take the soft sleeper train to Datong. Upon your arrival, transfer to the hotel check in.

Day 6   Datong 

Full day sightseeing in Datong. you will visit Yungang Caves, where you can see amazing Buddhist carving craftsmanship from thumb-sized figurines to 12 m Buddhist statues, and then visit the 1500 year old Hanging Monastery with its halls and pavilions built along the natural contours of the cliff. Yungang Caves is one of the three major cave clusters in China; punctuate the north cliff of Wuzhou Mountain, Datong. The area was excavated along the mountain, extending 1 km (0.62 miles) from east to west, revealing 53 caves and over 51,000 stone statues. The Caves are divided into east, middle, and west parts. Pagodas dominate the eastern parts; west caves are small and mid-sized with niches. Hanging Monastery stands at the foot of Mt. Hengshan, 5 km (3 miles) south of Hunyuan County, and 65 km (40 miles) from downtown Datong City. Since it hangs on the west cliff of Jinxia Gorge more than 50 meters above the ground, it is called Hanging Monastery. Hanging Monastery, built in 491, has survived more than 1400 years.
After the visiting, you will be transferred to the airport to take the evening flight to Beijing.
