Renowned Home of Fruit and Melon

Xinjiang is well-known home of fruit and melon. Each golden fall, all the streets in the cities of Xinjiang are lined with fruit stalls selling multiple varieties of locally grown fruit and melon. Their colors are temping and their aroma more so, not to mention their taste, the unique climate conditions of Xinjiang, its abundance of light and heat, its aridity, and its enormous difference in temperature within the 24-hour a day are all advantageous to the accumulation and growth of sugar and protein content in the fruits, so that their color is bright and clear, and they are juicy with almost no pulp. The cultivation of fruit and melon in Xinjiang has had at least a history of over two thousand years. The grapes of Turpan, the honeydew melons of Hami, the pomegranates of Yecheng, the apricots of Kuche, the apples of Ili, the figs of Artux, the pears of Korle, the peaches, the thin shelled walnuts and almost of Hotan are all choice varieties of fruits

According to statistics, the annual production of fruit and melon in Xinjiang exceed 2 million tons, and per capita consumption exceed 100 kilograms, ranking first in the country, and higher than the average world consumption level.
