Colorful Ethnic Music and Dance The Uygur people are good at both singing and dancing, and the Twelve Mukkam is a musical work that has been handed down through the generations. The dance in that work include solo dance,pas de deux, and group dance. The dance steps of the female dancers are light and elegant with rapid whirling and change of steps while the male dancer's steps are vibrant and unrestrained, full of masculinity. The traditional dance repertoire includes the Sennam, Dolang, the Bowl Dance (dancing with a stack of porcelain bowls on the head), the Puta Dance, the Wedding dance, the Mais dance and others. Modern dances include the Grape Picker, the Melon Planter. In Praise of Xinjiang, My Rewab(a musical instrument), are considered the best of them. The word ˇ°Meshlepˇ± in Uygur means a form of group folk entertainment held on high days and holidays which include singing, dancing, and performances by acrobats, jugglers and magicians.
The Kazak people love to sing, and their instrument is the dombra, and singers usually accompany himself on the instrument. Their dances are beautiful, with much shrugging of the shoulders and steps imitating the gallop of horses, emitting a strong sence of the wide-open pastures. Tradition dances include Simulated Dance, Work Dance, Tool Dance, Custom Dance and others. In addition, countless new dances are being continually choreographed.
There are also many choice works of music and dances by other ethnic group such as the Tajik, who like to imitate the soaring eagle in their dance, and they do it with such expertise that it is a wonder.
